Yearning Upwards Essay
Deborah Freedman explores different aspects of her subject, variations on a theme, as in music. She layers pigments and textures to create intricate surfaces that encourage complex readings of mood from painting to painting. Fall Tree 3 feels like a menacing wood, or our own dark imagination. My True Home conveys an equally powerful mood with clean layers of color evoking the effect of sun glistening on the leaves in an idyllic wood.
